OBJECTIVE OF INTRODUCING HOTEL & TOURISM DEPARTMENT

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (1997), the economics of the 21st century will be dominated by three industries: The Hotel & Tourism industry is one of them, where every year requires a large amount of manpower with a variety of skills world-wide. It has been estimated that, by 2007, more than 10 million people world-wide will be employed in this sector. This is the world’s fastest-growing, job-creating profession. Today there can be few more exciting, challenging and varied career-offering opportunities for the fast promotion by the hotel management industry.

The Hotel Management industry has been experiencing a boom time and has a very wide range of field to build up a very magnificent career. An educational program for Hotel Management is only a career choice but also a fruitful experience. This is evident if one considers the wide range of topics that students are learning in the hospitality programs. Starting from the Front Office Management, Food & Beverage Production, Food & Beverage Services, House Keeping Operation inevitably such a diversity of topics make the learning process for a Hotel Management Diploma or a degree a rewarding experience. Students that are joining such programs will benefit not only of having a qualification but also of obtaining a wide range of knowledge across different disciplines.

STUDIES SYSTEM

The method of delivery is the combination of classroom lectures, integration exercises and independent project work. Students will spend around 60% of the coursework working on practically and therefore this course is highly practical based. Throughout the course work, students will have access to experienced industry professionals for tips and guidance.

JOB PLACEMENT

Students will be placed for a period of 3/4 months industrial attachment in 3/5 Star level hotels to obtain hands-on work experience. During the attachment, a student will get a permanent job opportunity if he/she will become able to satisfy the management of the respective hotels. Beside this, BSDI is also maintaining a good relationship with the top most recruiting agencies in Bangladesh. Through these recruiting agencies our students will get an opportunity to go abroad (Middle East, Europe, and America) and work there legally.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Diploma Degree holder of Hotel Management course will have the necessary skills to compete successfully for the position of F&B Manager/Supervisor, Captain, Front Office Manager/Executive, Manager/Assistant Manager/Executive in Housekeeping Department, Assistant Cook.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

The candidate has to be appeared in a short test on Spoken English & General Knowledge. Then he/she has to collect an Admission Form of Diploma in Hotel Management and submit it with all necessary information and Xerox copy of academic & experience certificates (If any).

ENROLLMENT SESSION

  • Enrollment sessions are March/June/September/December
  • Admission advertisement published in Daily News papers before the session start

UNIFORM

Students must wear the following uniform during the training period:

  • MALE: Black Trousers, White Full Sleeve shirt, Maroon Long Tie, Black shoe, Chefs Apron, Chefs Hat (White)
  • FEMALE: White Salwar-Kameez, White Scarf, Black Shoe, Chefs Apron, Chefs Hat (White)

 

FINAL EXAMINATION RESULT: GRADING IS GIVEN BELOW

  • 85% and Above – Distinction
  • 75% and Above – Credit
  • 50% and Above – Pass
  • Below 50% is regarded as Fail

Course Trainer evaluates the Trainees out of 100 marks in each subject according to the following criteria:

i)      Class Test             : 20 %

ii)    Quiz/Assignment     : 05 %

iii)   Attendance             : 10 %

iv)   Final Exam               : 50 %

v)   Project                    : 15 %
